The Revolution will not be televised

I've discovered a new voice - an exciting poet and singer, Gil Scott-Heron. And this is the poem/song via which I discovered him. Its beautiful - I love the power and the anger of the lyrics, the urgency to them.

  1. Scott-Heron is one of my all time favourites. Much glad you discovered him too. Check out 'Whitey on the Moon' and the more recent, very bleak, "Where did the Night Go?" The latter chokes me up every time I listen to it. The journey of the angst of 'Revolution will not be televised' to the grey ennui, the dreary everydayness of resignation, of non-hope. Why does it always end with a whimper?

  2. I do know who Lazarus is, though 'this is me' is an excellent introduction :P
Yes, P. from capital-land had told me that you like Scott-Heron. I just heard 'whitey on the moon' and it's great. I also loved 'Your soul and mine'.
It doesn't always end with a whimper, I think. Or at least I hope. Political struggles go on, the actors change. The ennui, the resignation and the non-hope enter individual lives, but I hope there is always someone, fighting 'a battle for your soul and mine'.
PS - When are you going to send me the promised Sandman files?
PPS - Have you seen Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert yet?
